The internal auditor course is completed over two days (and
generally on-site). This course has been recognised by the RABQSA International Inc
and has their endorsement.
The objectives of the course are as follows:
Understanding auditing methodology from audit planning
to reporting audit results
Understanding the relevant management system standards
(eg ISO9001, AS4801) and the role of the management system in assisting organisations
to operate effectively and efficiently
Understanding the requirements for procedures, work instructions,
process improvement plans and other documentation that support the management
system and the document control techniques applicable to such documentation
Understanding the relationship between the management
system and the business process and the need for the management system to
enhance business performance
Awareness of the accreditation / certification infrastructure
for auditors
Understanding of the different types of audits, the make
up and function of internal audit teams and the role and responsibilities
of the audit team leader
Understanding the auditors' Code of Conduct, auditing
etiquette and the importance of relationship building with the auditee and
within the audit team
The course is generally run for 8 hours per day and consists
of a 1 hour examination. Participants who pass the examination are issued
with a certificate of attainment, whereas those who do not pass the exam (or
who choose not to sit the examination) are issued with a certificate of attendance.
The course is generally completed on site, so that practical
auditing skills can be utilised straight away. This provides you with two benefits:
some of the management system can be audited
the training is both competence and theory based.
Classes are structured around facilitator / participant interface.
When there is one facilitator present the maximum number of participants should
be 12. For 13 - 20 participants there must be two facilitators present.
External Auditor Course
The external auditor course is completed over five days (and
generally on-site). This course is certified with RABQSA International Inc..
Nationally recognised statements of attainment from BSB51607 Diploma of Quality Auditing can be issued for the following:

Overview of national and international approaches to OHS

Comparison of different OHS management systems, standards

OHS auditor certification criteria
Explanation of the minimum requirements for a competent
OHS management system.
Performance criteria for OHS systems.
Explanation of the need for systems to develop and change.
On-site auditing activities including entry and exit interviews.
Audit reporting and follow-up.
Audit personnel/teams (including identification of specialised
expertise required).
Internal and external auditors.
Case study(s) demonstrating the application of OHS systems
and how these systems should be audited taking into account both auditing
methodology and the technical scope of the audit.
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP SKILLS FOR AUDITORS
Communication skills for auditors.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL ASPECTS OF AN OHS AUDIT
Legal liabilities of auditors eg:
Due diligence.
Codes of practice and legal requirements applicable to
different industry sectors.
Reviewing audit scope and outcomes in terms of satisfying
legal requirements and/or codes of practice.
Auditors' Code of Ethics.
The course is generally run for 40 hours. Participants
who pass the assessment are issued with a certificate of attainment, whereas
those who are not competent are provided with certificates of attendance.
